Hello, I’m Derek. I’m from North Carolina (born and raised).
I was born at University Hospital a "blue baby" but quickly transformed
into a lifelong "baby blue".
Currently I reside approximately 700 km south of my hometown in the fine
state of Georgia. Fortunately, as depicted in the beautiful skyline below, Carolina Blue is never far away.
A distinct connection on full display while enjoying a
soccer game in Falcons country. This GIANTS garb and
connection began when a certain linebacker was drafted in
1981. I became a lifelong fan ever since, never
wavering, through the highs & the lows.
Engineering
I have been hacking electronics for 20+ years (30+ counting my
youth). I have a real passion for all things computing, including
software and hardware, gaming and operating, and any computer or
engineering related task. I actually enjoy debugging software and
troubleshooting electronics and cohesively meshing software and hardware
together which brings me to my current computing era over the previous 3
- 5 years: embedded engineering. I have become adept at melding software
and hardware in embedded microcontroller solutions. For example, one of
my best engineering achievements (which is a perfect meld of software
and hardware) is a current invention that is patent pending and has been
called by the few who know about it a game-changer. If interested,
return to Home page and click on the "Man on keyboard" for projects. Search the projects list and
click on VIKIE. I have been focused on three families of
microcontrollers lately: Freescale HCS12, Arduino family (including Due
- different family MCU, ARM Cortex M3), and ARM Cortex M4. I also am passionate about
network engineering as I have been coding network apps lately as well as
building microntroller systems, including Distributed Computing
applications.
Programming
If passion was not delivered via engineering information above, let
me state an old hacker's adage here to drive it home:
“A hacker does for love what others would not do for money.”
–/usr/games/fortune
I code in (or have coded in) Assembly (HCS12, i386),
C, C++, Java, Python, PHP, SQL (Oracle, MySQL), HTML, CSS, JavaScript,
Lua, Lisp, Tcl/Tk, Perl and others (like Shell scripting, VHDL for CPLDs,
and so forth). My last Java project was a server/client application. My last
C project (ongoing) is the patent pending embedded project mentioned above.
My last PHP and other web languages is this site. Currently, my time is
limited due to the patent coding; but I am trying to get time to learn
Apple's new Swift language (have a pretty good app idea).
Break?
I do take breaks. I love reading books (including the Bible) and have
been an avid gamer for 30 years. I am learning Qigong as well as practicing Hatha Yoga. I
absolutely love our modern streaming technology which allows me to
control movie & television time. It's been commonplace for a while
now, but selecting what I want to watch according to my schedule is
still simply amazing. Break-time. Great. What's on? Hmmmm... I don't
watch any of those. Oh well, order on U-verse, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu,
Crackle, and on and on. Oh wait, this is supposed to be break-time from
technology. LOL.
About derekdevaughn.net
This site which is among one of many belonging to me was intended as a
personal site offereing a brief summary of myself and my skillset I bring to employers/clients.
It is a convenient avenue to update an ever-changing resume, career portfolio, case studies/work samples, and
my fave: projects.
Now let's talk about the site for a minute. If you stumbled across my
site, then you may not have a clue as to “what is”, and
“where is.” Where are the ads?
What is this link for? Where are the labels? Where is everything? In a word: GONE.
Those invited will completely understand the navigation and its
simplicity. I am a fan for simple and clean sites, including my own. All
are welcome so if you surfed here by happenstance, let me post a
legend to hopefully clarify and encourage further visits to and around the site.
Also, this site was written completely by hand in vi/Vim. Web
technologies employed on this site consist of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript,
and PHP.
